Friday, December 26th, 2008

I guess its a sign of the economic times … things have gone from bad to worse for zavvi there gone into administration some really good deals happening in store but looks like there website won’t be back in action anytime soon. So I’m removing their products from the pricefindr index.

zavvi.co.uk not accepting orders.

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

zavvi.co.uk are currently not accepting orders online as they have been effected by woolworths going in administration full statement here. The product listings for zavvi will be out of date by a few days until they are back up online.

“As you may know, Woolworths plc and Entertainment UK Ltd have entered administration. Whilst zavvi is not part of either company, Entertainment UK Ltd is zavvi.co.uk’s main supplier.
Due to this ongoing situation we are currently unable to provide the high level of service we aim to deliver to our customers, and have temporarily suspended taking online orders until the supply situation is resolved”

one year since pricefindr.ie went live …

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Wow … where did that year go? Can’t believe its one year since I put pricefindr.ie live! I probably haven’t done all I had hoped in the year but as something that I do part time the prototype has really proved its worth. During the last few months I have not had enough time to add many new features and content as we’ve welcomed a new arrival into the family. But pricefindr.ie is very much alive and for the year ahead I hope to announce some cool new features and content. Also I intend to market and promote the site (this year’s effort was zero!) I think the real success for the year was the backend technology it has provided itself quite robust. Anyway onwards and upwards :)

thehut.com added to pricefindr.ie

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Just to let you know thehut.com has been added to the pricefindr.ie index.

In the past I have found them to have some real bargains on CDs, and DVDs their products should be appearing on the search results.

Coldplay release and other news…

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The big album news from last week as been Coldplay’s new album release Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. Best priced I’ve found has been on bangcd.com for 8.90 Euro. Full price comparisons can be found here.

In other news cdwow.ie have updated there website I like the new look and feel definitely less cluttered. I have updated pricefindr to work with their new site. They really are showing signs of improvement I had gone off them for a while but recently any purchases I have made have gone smooth. Also the new site supports paying by Laser.

Blog updates…

Monday, March 31st, 2008

These have been few and far between over the last while as I have been caught up with some other things. There are a couple of things I would like to do with the blog I need to do an upgrade of wordpress and do some other DNS changes to make it relate better to the main .ie domain. And more importantly try and get more regular updates going in relation to what is happening with the main site. So in that spirit just to let you know I have been doing some changes to the main pricefindr website that I hope to get released soon nothing major just some usability and navigational fixes etc. I’ll keep you posted.

Price trends … new feature.

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

It’s been a while since the last post …. last year in fact!!

With the xmas and a few days off I was hacking together a new feature which I think is pretty useful.
I’m calling it trends basically it displays the price movements for cd’s as the pricefindr crawler refreshes its index. One of the main things I’m trying to achieve is to constantly refresh the results and keep them as up to date as possible in doing this I noticed that a lot of the sites reduce there products quite regularly and thought I would be cool to know the latest reductions so trends was born.

It will allow users to see reductions on cd’s from the websites that pricefindr index. I’m going to start publishing a weekly blog entry showing a summary for the last week. Any way enjoy and send on feedback or ways you might like to see it improved.

In other minor updates I’ve been doing some minor tweaks to the UI trying to find a better design for it. (I really do now realise my frontend skills in html, javascript etc. are pants!!) . There probably isn’t going to be and major new features over the next while (busy in the day job). And my main efforts are going to be focused on adding more websites to pricefindr.ie and possibly some new verticals probably DVD’s.

In other random stuff I have to say I really am enjoying the new Radiohead album In Rainbows I didn’t actually buy the CD but got it from download when they made it available by naming your own price (I won’t disclose if I paid for it or not). But if did want it on cd I would of coursed used pricefindr to find the lowest price for it. ;)

hmv.co.uk added …

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I have added HMV to pricefindr.ie their music cds should start filtering into the results over the next view days.

New Browse Feature.

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Been a while since the last blog post with the Xmas rush kicking into full swing I just haven’t had time to update. I have added a new browse feature this will allow users to browse most of the Music CD’s that are currently indexed on the pricefindr website. It is based on the standard approach most music websites take

Artist First Letter -> Artist Name -> Album

At each level you can search. This will allow users to search by artist (i.e. show me all prices for CD’s by this artist), and search by album (i.e. show me all prices for CD’s for a particular album). You can access the browse page from the pricefindr homepage and directly here. Hopefully theres no major bugs haven’t had time to give it a real bash let me know if there is.

I’ve been thinking of adding some more websites to the pricefindr index but I’m now running out of websites that I have used directly. So any sites you would recommend let me know, I know of the two possible irish candidates in cdworld.ie and edirectory.ie but I have not used neither. I have to say in terms of Irish based websites there is a lack of quality e-commerce sites for music. Sites like goldendiscs.ie and xtravision.ie seem only to list CDs they have in store but don’t actually list the price on their website!! (why even bother!)
